Floor scales
Thursday, August 7, 2008
Rail scale is one of the important scales. Some scales are very popular and some less known. The two important organizations are NMRA (national model railroad association) in North America and MOROP which is derived from a German word MOdellbahn and the French word EURope. The most popular scales are HO, N, O, G, TT, Z and live steam garden railroading. There is a lot of difference between scale and gauge. Scale means the ratio between units of measurement on a model, while gauge means the distance between the two running rails of the track.
There are three different types of gauge, standard gauge, narrow gauge and broad gauge. The standard gauge has a track gauge of 4 ft 8 ½ inch and narrow gauge is less than the standard gauge and narrow gauge has a wider gauge. It has lot of advantages like it has a low cost on installation and it is very safe and fast payback. The name of HO is derived from 1:87 scale and 0 scale from 1, 2, 3 scales.
